Sinopsis:

I was profoundly touched by the film, but I can see why people needing a strong linear narrative might be left feeling incomplete.

The tagline doesn’t quite capture the key to the film– it’s not precisely about redefining family– I suspect the marketing folks thought that would resound with a likely target audience. (Like the Frameline GLBT Film Festival in SF.) To me it’s about the need to belong– to find a place in this world and then take that ride. The struggle is to find equilibrium with all the surprises that may come one’s way.

Although the movie has its share of sadnesses, there are also quiet triumphs. In an odd way, this film touches some of the same chords as the far more eccentric "The World According To Garp" and "Cider House Rules."

To the director’s and screenwriter’s credit, they resisted the temptation to pack too much onto the film. I found the characterizations just specific enough. Fine performances from all. Beautifully established in youth.

The film trusts both your intelligence and intuition to carry you through the trip. Don’t see this if you’re hungering for car chases!

Film yang aneh … mungkin begitu komentar Tora Sudiro kalo nonton film ini.

cerita yang dimulai dengan suatu keluarga yang memiliki dua anak laki-laki, sang kakak dan adik. Sang kakak yang begitu sayang dengan adik membawanya kesebuah tanah pekuburan yang tidak jauh dari rumah mereka. Dan disitulah pertama kali sang adik merasakan ‘high’.

Ironis suatu ketika sang kakak pada malam hari menabrak pintu dorong kaca, sewaktu terlalu semangat berlari memasuki rumah. Dan sudah pasti diketahui, bahwa sang kakak mati (awal cerita yang aneh).

Akhirnya sang adik - sang bakal Colin Farell bersahabat dekat dengan seorang laki-laki teman sekolahnya, yang akhirnya suatu malam mereka sewaktu tidur bersama saling meraba - ya, saling meraba - genital masing-masing di bawah selimut (pertengahan cerita yang aneh juga - palagi kalo ngeliat tampang temannya yang keenakan… hiii)

Cerita singkatnya, kalau Bobby karakter yang dimainkan oleh Farell) adalah seorang yang sangat lembut dan disukai banyak orang, dijauhi oleh Jonathan karena cemburu (Roberts) Bobby berhasil mendapatkan perhatian dari orang tua Jonathan. Jonathan akhirnya pindah kota. Sampai suatu ketika mereka dewasa, Bobby menyusul Jonathan setelah beberapa tahun kemudian.

Jonathan yang akhirnya tumbuh gay bersahabat dengan Clare (Penn), dan terjadilah persahabatan yang unik diantara ketiganya. Clare yang straight, Bobby yang bisex, dan Jonathan yang gay, berkeputusan untuk pindah kesuatu lingkungan yang ramah dan mau menerima mereka tinggal satu rumah. Cinta segitiga yang menjadi "A funny family", kalo nggak salah disebut oleh Clare mengenai mereka.

Mereka berbahagia menjalani hidupnya sebagai keluarga yang aneh, sampai akhirnya Clare merasa bahwa walaupun mereka hidup dengan keanehan mereka, dia tetap mengingnkan kehidupan yang normal, dan pergilah Clare meninggalkan Bobby dan Jonathan.

Jika anda bosan menonton cerita drama yang biasa-biasa saja, mungkin anda akan tertarik menonton film ini. Hal yang tidak biasa akan anda bisa temukan di film ini, dan merasakan bagimana hangatnya cinta dibagi di antara ketiga orang aneh ini. Iya, film yang aneh.

They say:
"The Terrorist" is a non-violent film about violence and the subtlety of its camera work and overall direction might remind you of a travelogue rather than a searing drama about political fanaticism. The film takes place in India and yet we don’t have any information on what the conflict is nor do we see the rebel leader whose hand controls all the subversion. That really isn’t important but what is important is studying the assassin, Malli, who has so many close-ups that it border on obsession as the filmmakers try to reveal the conflicts she has to resolve in her mind, from her eyes blinking at the drops of rain to her face to face encounter with her lover soldier to her final makeup before meeting her destiny. Three men reveal themselves to Malli at pivotal points and the film underscores it with a technique of keeping the background unfocused until it is called for - the lover soldier who sees Malli as an obscured vision, the boy Lotus who stands too late to see his fate, and the VIP as he is greeted by the young women. Never are explosions seen nor direct killings exposed, we only hear gun shots or the splatter of blood on the murderer’s face or the bloodied machete. The film seems to tip its hand by introducing the likeable ‘Mad Vasu’ and his comatose wife with her outstretched hand of comfort but, in truth, we had no way of anticipating the ending. You might want to compare "The Terrorist" to "Day of the Jackal" or even "La Femme Nikita" but such comparisons would be unfair. "The Terrorist" is a much better film because it allows the audience to unravel the mind of an assassin, in isolation, without the prejudice of killed bodies or self-serving violence. "The Terrorist" is a powerful adventure into the lonely paths of the human soul.

Pernah menonton Film India yang didalamnya tidak terdapat nyanyian dan tarian? Tonton deh film ini.

Saya hampir selalu menyukai film-film India. Bukan ceritanya, bukan tarian memutari pilarnya, bukan air mata yang selalu melelehnya, tapi lebih ke kekayaan warna dan pemandangan yang hampir selalu ditawarkan dalam setiap filmnya.

Seperti film India kebanyakan, sebelum filmnya mulai, credit title dipersembahkan. Hmm… hanya satu nama seorang bule. Ceritanya sebetulnya tidak begitu istimewa, yaitu seorang gerilyawan yang secara suka rela membawa bom bunuh diri.

Keistimewaan yang langsung ditangkap adalah angle-angle yang tidak biasa ditawarkan pada film India. Lebih terfokus, dan terkonsentrasi, sehingga mengingatkan akan film-film Perancis. Warna, pengambilan, dan cerita. Istimewanya lagi, adalah mereka tidak menghilangkan ciri ke-India-annya sama sekali, seperti baju tradisional India, kebiasaan-kebiasaan orang India, rumah-rumah dan lingkungan khas India.

Saya pikir kesempurnaan yang diberikan mulai dari pemilihan pemain (tidak cantik dan ganteng yang dibuat-buat, juga akting yang wajar - kecuali sang anak yang bernama Lotus… duh pengen tembak dia), make up artist, wordrobe, artistik, photography (God, help me… do I really know what this is all about?).

My best moment, sewaktu sang ‘bapak kos’, sang pembantui, dan Malli (sang terrorist) makan siang bersama. Dengan warna yang sangat menyatu, yang berasal dari daun pisang sebagai alas makan, nasi, lauk, warna dinding, lantai, dan tangan yang menyerok nasi, memberikan perasaan seperti berada di twilight zone. A good feeling!

This movie is a realistic portrayal of the meth lifestyle, not because it’s a realistic movie, but because it’s a bunch of tweakers very busy doing nothing. My friend and I laughed during the whole movie because we both knew people who fit the characters in the film perfectly. If you don’t know anyone into drugs this movie probably won’t appeal to you. The moviemakers get a lot of facets of the lifestyle spot-on, like the importance of the car. The main character is the most important person in the movie, even more important than the cook, because he’s got a car. A lot of the movie is spent driving around on various crank-related missions, most of them pointless. And that’s really what being a crankster is about, getting high for the sake of getting high and finding ways to fill all that extra time they now have. If the characters come off as blunted and one-dimensional it’s because that’s how the people they’re portraying are.

I say:

You guys yang menyukai film-film seperti ‘underground movies’, you’ll indeed like this. Ceritanya melulu soal sex and drugs. The best part is, you’ll find great actors, such as Murphy, and also Rourke. Can’t image how they would want to participate in such movie! You can also find much of swearing and nude people.

Film yang berkesan sangat jorok *dan tampilannya sangat jorok pula, saya anggap sebagai the must see movie… terutama bagi kalian yang tidak bermasalah menonton film berkategori ‘freak movie’, karena saya pikir dalam pembuatan film ini dilakukan suatu research mengenai karakter-karakter yang sehari-hari berada dalam gelimpangan drugs, dan sex bebas, sehingga bisa didapatkan suatu ide tentang suatu kehidupan yang tidak dapat kita bayangkan sebelumnya.

Movies like Saw are the ones that makes us believe in the horror genre. It is because of such movies we like to see horror/thriller movies. Let me tell you that after watching Saw I wanted to buy the ticket and watch it again because after a long time I got to see a real gripping and tightly directed horror movie. The movie is very exciting and has a lot of goosebumps. However, if you are a faint of heart please do not see this movie as it has a lot of gore/violence in it which will make you jump out of your seat. I just can’t wait for the DVD to come out as I really want to buy it. My recommendation to all of you is to watch Saw and have a good time like I did. Also, the movie has a great twist. 10/10

I say:
Kalo udah nonton SPUN, kayanya ada lagi film yang bisa buat ketawa sambil geleng-geleng kepala. Jalan cerita yang sangat sederhana - dimana tiga orang (2 orang hidup dan 1 mati) - yang terkurung dalam 1 toilet tua yang membawa kepada kematian gara-gara tak tik mind game yang sangat bagus. Bercerita tentang investigasi serial killer, yang pada akhirnya penonton disuguhi akhir cerita yang sangat tidak disangka sebelumnya. Kalau lagi iseng, see this movie! Ditanggung geleng-geleng.

Satu adegan yang tidak bisa dilupakan, adalah adegan pemotongan kaki oleh dirinya sendiri, karena kakinya yang dirantai oleh ‘pembunuhnya’, demi mendapatkan telepon genggam yang berbunyi (satu-satunya yang menghubungkannya dengan dunia luar). Padahal seharusnya dia tidak perlu melakukan hal itu, karena toh jika dia tidak panik, dia pasti akan bisa diselamatkan. But instead, he lost his feet, and his friend was traped alone inside the toilet, and dead soon. Atau bahasa kerennya "shit happens". Good make up, good setting. Sick movie

The only comment form me: YUCK and DOUBLE YUCK! Some scene are too way nasty to describe Heran aja, si Ewan McGregor yang dikenal bermain ciamik dalam Moulin Rouge, ternyata pernah membintangi film ber-rated R.
Tapi sebenernya nih film buat ketawa-ketiwi…
